So I installed my JB4 a couple weeks ago; after taking it for the first spin I noticed I would get a CEL and/or SES light if I take it over about 10psi of boost. Also after I would get the code it would have a very rough idle. I read the code and it was for a cylinder 1 misfire, figured due to the spark plugs since they were due for a change. But it would only idle rough or throw codes after I would push more than 10psi of boost.
A couple days ago I went ahead and changed all 6 of the spark plugs and cleaned out the ignition coils, put the car back together and fired it up. The car was idling around 600rpms and it was very rough, the car was shaking and vibrating all over. Figured maybe it just needed to adjust so I took it for a spin, warmed up the engine and then let it rip. No CEL or SES after hitting 15psi of boost or so, so I kept driving it around and got it up to about 18psi of boost and still no issues. No issues while driving or moving, the only issues are when its idling below 1k rpms.
What could this be? I don't think it has anything to do with the JB4. Was thinking maybe spark plug gaps but they come pregapped and the ECU on the N54 is very good at adapting, so I'm not thinking that's what it is.
Also, I bought my JB4 used; in first and second gear I can only get about 14psi or so but when I get to third gear and on I can get 18+psi. Could it be that the JB4 was limited in the first two gears by the previous owner?
