New Walbro 450 bucket.

Hey all,

The purpose of this thread is to gauge interest so that I can plan accordingly. Please post up if you are interested or have questions. To answer some of what I believe will be common questions, I have included a Q&A section at the bottom of this post. ;)

I wanted to show you guys what I've been developing and testing lately. I'm calling this my Stage 2 kit and it is a stock E series bucket with a Walbro 450 E85 pump installed. I've designed a custom fitting and plumbing to retain the venturi's functionality and to make it 100% PNP. However, I have tuned the fitting to provide the maximum amount of fuel possible to the HPFP while directing only as much fuel as needed to the venturi to protect it and the lines from the increased capacity of the new pump but yet keep the bucket full during high demand periods.

Here's a few pics....

Here are a couple screenshots of one of the logs. All logs at this point are taken with my car on 100% E85 (tested as E82.5) at around 1200' elevation and temps in the 60's. The HPFP system is completely stock but I do have an external boost referenced regulator w/return and upgraded fuel lines. However I am NOT using my external inline pump or CP injection for these logs. If you'd like to see one of those logs for comparison, you can see it here. Of course my car's fuel tables are tuned and optimized for the fuel I'm running. Here's a link to the log below running just the 450 bucket.

and last but not least, here is a video of the bucket in action on my test bench to demonstrate flows, amperage draw, PSI, and the venturi fill.

In case you missed it in the video, the specs are as follows:

Flow = 1GPM
Amp draw = 21amps
Voltage = 13.5v
Tested @ 74psi

All fittings, lines, and the stock bucket are Nylon and the internal lines are rated for 183psi working pressure and burst pressures of 730psi. They are also form fitted and then crimp clamped for added strength.

*Flow comparison data...Walbro specs this pump to flow @ 2 GPM at 40psi. On my test bench it flows 1.4 GPM @ 40psi but my bench rig is setup with .19" ID lines as that is the same size as the smallest orifice in our stock fuel system prior to the HPFP. So actual flows when installed may vary. A stock LPFP flows just under .6 GPM on my test bench.

In that regard here are answers to a few questions I'm sure will be asked.

Q: What will it cost?
A: $400 + shipping and a 100% refundable core deposit

Q: How much is the core deposit
A: $300

Q: Can I ship you my LPFP to be upgraded?
A: Yes, as long as it is stock and you schedule it with me to verify availability and so we can turn it around as quickly as possible

Q: Can I just purchase a new bucket and have it upgraded?
A: Yes, but I'd recommend having me ship you the new bucket and shipping me your old one to be upgraded. Your choice though.

Q: When will it be available?
A: They will begin shipping in 30-60 days

Q: Can I run 100% E85 with this?
A: Yes, this is an E85 rated pump, however that does not mean you can necessarily run 100% E85. Our cars limited by the HPFP's capacity. So whether or not you can run 100% E85 is highly dependent on the amount of power you are making, where you're making your power, your tune, and a host of other variables. YMMV

Q: Will this connect to the stock fuel line in the tank
A: Yes, it is 100% PNP...remove your stock pump, drop this one in and reconnect the factory fittings. If you have removed the stock fitting from your fuel line, I can send you a replacement 90 degree fitting or a straight fitting so that you can retain the PNP functionality.

Q: I have your 255 inline kit, would I benefit from upgrading to this kit?
A: Not at this time. If your circumstances are unique...PM me.

Q: My current stock LPFP is going out, what would you recommend?
A: This is a perfectly viable option for replacement. However, availability will be limited for a while and the stock LPFP and 255 inline kit is easier to return to stock.

Q: I have your Stage 1 255 inline kit, can I get a discount?
A: Yes, I will offer a $50 discount if you already purchased my Option 1 kit...if you purchased my Option 3 kit, just send me your old bucket for upgrade and you will get $100 discount. If you purchased my Option 2 kit, I will give you a $25 discount. ;)

Q: My car is FBO and I want to run E85, what would you recommend?
A: If your stock LPFP is healthy, I'd recommend my Option 1 kit. It's the least expensive and most readily available option. It's sufficient to max out your stock HPFP and will allow you to make approx. 450whp with the right tune and E85 on an otherwise stock car.

Q: Can I put down a deposit or get on a waiting list for this pump?
A: Not at this time, I will announce when I will be taking orders at a later date.

Q: Where can I find information on your Stage 1 kits?
A: Click here

Thanks,
Steve
